Laydeez do Comics – Dublin

Talking comics in Dublin

Report on the First Meeting

Laydeez do ComicsHuge thanks to Sarah McIntyre, Maeve Clancy, and Alan Nolan, for their informative and witty presentations for the inaugural meeting of Laydeez do Comics – Dublin.

The wide range of experience from the guests was a clear demonstration of the flexibility of comic books, and the various ways they can be used to convey information or tell stories. The guests also offered valuable insights and tips about working professionally in the business.

The event was well attended, and the feedback from the evening was very positive, with people looking forward to the next meeting.

A big thank-you to Róisín Curé, who was our visual reporter for the first meeting (see her drawings of the event here), and to Catie Murphy who brought along ginger snap cookies (recipe here), which were eagerly devoured by the audience.

In all it was a fabulous evening for anyone interested in comic books as a fan or as a creator.

The organisers – Lynda Rucker and Maura McHugh – would like to thank the dynamic trio for taking time out of their schedules, and to everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting – which is tentatively scheduled for September. More on that anon.

Finally, here are some photos from the event:

it was a great evening and I was inspired by each of the speakers. Well done Maura and Lynda for organising it all. Loved Odessa as such a gorgeous and relaxed venue. Can’t wait for the next one. You’ve set the bar high!
